Enter when you clock in and how long you need to work, and we show the time you can clock out.
How to work out your clock out time
Clock out time = clock in time + hours to work + unpaid break. Paid breaks are not added, because they count as work time.
Example: You clock in at 8:00 AM and need an 8-hour day with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. 8:00 AM + 8 hours = 4:00 PM, plus 30 minutes = 4:30 PM.
For a night shift, clock in at 10:00 PM for 8 hours with a 30-minute break and you clock out at 6:30 AM the next day. The calculator tells you when the time is on the next day.
Common shifts
- 8 hours with a 30-minute unpaid break is 8 hours 30 minutes from clock in to clock out.
- 8 hours with a 1-hour unpaid lunch is 9 hours from clock in to clock out.
- 7.5 hours with no unpaid break is 7 hours 30 minutes from clock in to clock out.
Enter the hours and the extra minutes in separate boxes: 7.5 hours is 7 hours and 30 minutes. If you clock in and out at a time clock and want the whole week added up, use the time card calculator. To find the hours between a start and end time in 24-hour time, use the military time calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate what time I can clock out?
Add the hours you need to work, and any unpaid break, to your clock in time. 7:30 AM + 8 hours + 30 minutes = 4:00 PM.
Do I add my lunch break?
Add it only if it is unpaid. A paid break counts as time worked, so enter 0 for the break. Under federal rules a meal period of 30 minutes or more when you are fully relieved of duty is usually unpaid, while short rest breaks are paid. Check your employer's policy and your state's rules.
What if my shift goes past midnight?
The calculator shows the clock out time and says it is the next day. 10:00 PM plus 8 hours and a 30-minute break is 6:30 AM the next day.
How do I enter 7.5 hours?
Type 7 in the hours box and 30 in the minutes box. 7.25 hours is 7 hours and 15 minutes.
Does my employer round my clock out time?
Some employers round punches to the nearest 5, 6 or 15 minutes. If yours does, check your rounded hours with the payroll hours calculator.
